Leicester City secured yet another home victory this afternoon against a stern Barnsley side.The Foxes opened the scoring, Kerry Wood Jersey when Paul Gallaghers long range effort beat goalkeeper Luke Steele.Andy King put Leicester 2-0 ahead just before half time with an expertly executed chip, Barnsley didntlie down however as on loan Chelsea midfielder Jacob Mellis made it 2-1.In the second half though Leicester scored two more, Andy King placed home the ball from 20 yards and late on Kyle Naughton secured the emphatic victory with a scorching rocket.The first half was rather slow and didnt live up to expectations, but it was Paul Gallagher who opened the scoring as he smashed the ball home from distance past the helple s Steele.Patrick Van Aanholt nearly made it 2-0 on his home debut, as his curling free kick struck the bar, Barnsley were also playing good football as new signing Danny Haynes troubled the Leicester defence with some darting runs.Leicester City however doubled their lead on 43 minutes, captain Andy King managed to work his way through the Barnsley defence before hes amazing lob drifted over Steele for 2-0.There was even more drama before half time, as Barnsley pulled a goal back on 45 minutes. The Foxes struggled to clear the ball out of there penalty area, as the ball fell kindly to Mellis who struck home from the edge of the 18 yard box.Barnsley could of well made it 2-2 before half time, a mistake from Yuki Abe set Franck Nouble on his way, the on loan striker rounded the Leicester goalkeeper but hes eventualshot was cleared off the line by Kyle Naughton.The second half was full of chances for the home side, and on 50 minutes Paul Gallagher yet again tested Steele in the Barnsley goal.Leicester City made it 3-1 just before the hour mark, as Andy King netted his second of the game, as the young Welshman broke from midfield and struck the ball perfectly in the bottom corner of the net.Sven Goran Erik sons side couldhave easily made it 4-1, Paul Gallagher and Richie Wellens both tested Steele who yet again pulled off some excellent saves.Today actually marked the birthday of manager Sven Goran Erik son, the Swede who has now turned 63 wouldhave been delighted with the Foxes second half performance, but the lads in Blue wasnt finished at 3-1.Yakubu picked the ball up from about 12 yards, as hes shot was well saved by Steele at hes near post, andminutes later substitute Matt Oakley forced a tremendous save out of the former Manchester United goalkeeper, with a scorching 25 yard shot.The Foxes then wrapped up the game, after great determination by Kyle Naughton paid off, as he stole the ball on the half way line before smashing a long range shot past Luke Steele, in what could be the goal of the day in the Championship.The referee signaled the end of the game, as Leicester City now move up to 8th place, only three points off the play-off places but both Cardiff and Watford who are in the play-off mix have two games in hand.The East Midlands Derby game is next weekend, as Sven Goran Erik sons side travel to Derby County in the televised Championship match on Sky Sports.After the game the Swede stated, We played some very good football today and I am again proud of the players.
