ADT, a prominent player in the home security sector, has acknowledged a recent data breach after facing threats from the ShinyHunters group to publish stolen information.

The company announced that it discovered unauthorized access to sensitive data related to both current and prospective customers on April 20. In response, ADT promptly halted the breach and initiated an investigation to assess the situation.

The findings revealed that personal data had indeed been compromised during this incident.

According to ADT's communication with BleepingComputer, the breach primarily affected names, phone numbers, and addresses.

In fewer instances, the last four digits of social security numbers or tax IDs and birth dates were also involved. However, it is important to note that no payment data, including bank account or credit card details, was retrieved, and customer security systems remained intact and uncompromised.

The company reassured the public that the impact of the breach was confined and has reached out to every individual affected.

This disclosure comes after ADT was listed on the ShinyHunters data leak platform, where the group alleges they possess 10 million records containing personal information of customers.

The threat on their site stated, "Over 10M records containing PII and other internal corporate data have been compromised. Pay or leak."

Further, it warned, "This is a final notice to get in touch by April 27, 2026, or face the consequences along with a series of digital issues that will arise."
