Building a 5-pitch arsenal that dominates in MLB The Show 26 isn’t just about speed—it’s about control, movement, and keeping hitters guessing. If you want to consistently freeze opponents and rack up strikeouts, follow these steps.

1. The Core Foundation (Pitches 1 & 2)

Every great pitcher needs a base that hitters can’t ignore.

  • Pitch 1: Outlier Fastball – Pick either a 4-Seam Fastball or Sinker. The Sinker is especially deadly because its late drop induces weak groundballs, perfect for double-play situations.
  • Pitch 2: Primary Breaking Ball – Choose a Slider or Slurve. This pitch should break hard away from same-handed hitters, making them swing and miss or hit off-balance.

These two pitches set up everything else in your arsenal. They give you both velocity and horizontal movement to lock down hitters early in counts.

2. The Timing Disrupter (Pitch 3)

To keep batters off balance, you need a pitch that messes with their timing.

  • Pitch 3: Circle Change – The Circle Change is preferred over a standard changeup. Its fading action moves down and away from opposite-handed hitters, making them chase and miss more often.

This pitch is your “bait” for hitters who are geared up for fastballs, creating opportunities for strikeouts or weak contact.

3. The Separation Weapons (Pitches 4 & 5)

Your last two pitches should make hitters second-guess every swing by creating extreme movement or speed gaps.

  • Pitch 4: Speed Differential Pitch – Pick a Sweeper or 12-6 Curve. The Sweeper swings horizontally across the plate, while the 12-6 Curve drops sharply from top to bottom.
  • Pitch 5: Inside Jammer – Choose the Cutter. Throwing this inside to same-handed hitters can snap bats back and force weak pop-ups.

These pitches ensure that your arsenal isn’t predictable. When paired with your first three, they make every plate appearance a guessing game for the batter.

4. Meta Pitching Strategies

  • Tunneling: Make your Sinker and Cutter appear identical out of the release point. Hitters should not be able to distinguish them until it’s too late.
  • Velocity Gaps: Maintain at least a 15–20 MPH gap between your fastest and slowest pitch. This difference keeps timing-sensitive batters off balance.
  • Attribute Focus: In Road to the Show, prioritize H/9 (Hits per 9 innings) and Pitch Control. These stats directly improve your ability to execute your mix under pressure.
